Lacrosse

As of last night, I have added the words "slashing", "crease", and "help" to my vocabulary. Last night was Nolan's first lacrosse game and I think I need to find a "Lacrosse for Dummies" book! I don't get the game or its terminology! The game couldn't have gone better for Nolan. It started out slow... it was freezing and he was a bench warmer. When he got into the game, he was a little hesitant at first, but then he got into it! He had a great time running up and down the field yelling "help (which means I am open) and chasing the ball down. His team got clobbered, but guess who scored the only goal (I think that's what it's called in lacrosse) for the PG Team #2? Yep! It was Nolan. He did a fun celebratory dance on the field! What a great game for Nolan.

Now, to show you how little I know/knew about lacrosse... when I went to pick up his equipment rentals, he was issued shoulder pads, elbow pads, and a helmet. His coach emailed us saying the players also needed a mouth guard and an athletic cup. I had no idea that lacrosse was a full contact sport. Good thing for Nolan... had I known, I may not have let him play. Now he is so stoked to body check other players... shaking my head and thinking...boys!

A Perfect Plane Ride

I'm working backwards and will update the events of the last week soon, however, I'm starting where my mind is! Last night I had the perfect plane ride! We've been in California for the past week for Leslie's wedding. Miles is not a fan of his carseat so we traveled to Utah in two groups. Dan and the big boys drove to California. Miles and I flew. The outbound trip was exhausting for me. Miles was good, but didn't sleep at all and needed to be constantly entertained for the 90 minute flight. That is always tiring, but when you are confined to a tiny plane seat area, it's even more difficult. At least I had Amy on that flight with me to help out! For our return fight, it was just me and Miles, and it could not have gone better! First, I had the whole row to myself! I had room for his carseat, my own seat, and a "spill-over seat". Second, Miles fell asleep on the Oakland Airport runway and slept the entire flight! He slept over Nevada, through the turbulence outside of Salt Lake City, slept through the landing, taxi-ing, deplaning, trek through the airport, and while at baggage claim! Miles woke up as we were leaving the airport and then happily sat in his carseat as we drove home! What a relaxing, stress-free flight!

Funny thing... I have a cousin who lives in Oakland who missed Leslie's wedding because of a commitment she had in Salt Lake. So she was "here" while I was "there". Guess who I saw in Salt Lake last night? Yep.. it was Anne! It was good to see her for about 2 minutes... too bad it wasn't longer, but she had a flight to catch and I had family circling the airport waiting for me.

House Update!

The Lindon house is coming along! We have 6 rooms completely ready to be moved into! Nolan's room has been painted. Jonathan's room is clean. The computer, guest. and living rooms are ready. Miles' room was painted last night! The dining room and both family rooms just need the walls washed. All the downstairs carpets have been cleaned. We declared defeat on the upstairs family room carpet and will be replacing it. I ordered the granite countertop yesterday. The fish wallpaper in the downstairs bathroom will be stripped today! I've cleaned 17 blinds and have 9 to go. We haven't touched our bedroom, the up or downstairs laundry rooms, or any bathrooms yet. Yesterday I found some good house news! I finally closely examined the upstairs laundry room and found that the "ugly wallpaper" wasn't wallpaper! It is just a really ugly faux-finish paint job (with an ugly wallpaper border) that I can easily take care of! So, little by little, the clean-up/fix-up is coming along. Our hopeful move-in date is June 20th. Pictures coming...

Lagoon

Saturday was MegaDiamond's annual family day at Lagoon. This year we all went. We slimed Miles up really good with sunblock and put him in the backpack and hoped for the best. Everyone had a great day. It wasn't too hot and the lines were pretty short. Miles loved looking at all the rides while the boys liked riding them! Miles did ride the train and carousel, but his favorite part of the day was eating! He loved his Push-up!Headed into the park for a fun day!

It took a while, but I found some geese-poop-free grass that I could set Miles down on. After being held or in the backpack for 7 hours, he loved his freedom!

School is out for the Summer!

The school year has wrapped up and the summer schedule started in full swing yesterday! Swim team practice began yesterday (so did summer band, but I forgot about that one!). Golf lessons start today. Both Jonathan and Nolan had fabulous school years... straight A's for both of them! Nolan earned awards for academic excellence, accelerated reading points ($5 to Barnes and Noble), 2nd most miles completed in "Walking" club (a pedometer and a shirt that was printed with "55 miles", the distance he went), and 2nd most miles run at the "Walk-a-thon" ($10 to Barnes and Noble and $10 to Costa Vida which he gave to me!). Jonathan earned more awards than any other 8th grader (yes, he's completed 8th grade and I now have a high schooler, ugh!) at Oak Canyon... he earned a Math Counts award, an IOWA top 10% in the Nation for 7 academic areas award, at High Honor Roll award (having a cummulative GPS of over 3.95), and the 8th grade Social Science student of the year award! Good Job, guys!

Jonathan's Birthday

Boy, am I ever behind on my blog! I'm running a million miles an hour from 6 a.m. to after 10 p.m. Today I am going to do some serious catch-up!

Jonathan turned 14 a little over a week ago. This year he needed a new bike. He's grown so much that his old bike's frame was just too tiny! So he and Dan went to the bike shop and picked him out a sweet new ride. His birthday was on a Sunday so he had quite the busy day... last day as Deacon's quorum president, ordained a Teacher, received his Duty to God Deacon's certificate, and received his On My Honor award. Jonathan got to be the "dinner dictator" at Grandma's house... he chose spaghetti, homemade French bread, salad without tomatoes (that request was my favorite) and Oreo Cake. He had a great day!
