Playgroup and Pre-School

Miles had an amazing breakthrough at his Structure Playgroup. He didn't have a single meltdown and the solution was so simple- he brings his own snack. Last week the OT and I were talking about Miles and his food issues and she wondered if Miles would be more cooperative if he brought his own snack to playgroup. I tried that out this week and it was successful. Snack-time had to be extended because Miles was enjoying it so much. Amazing, the power of diced turkey and Ritz Bits crackers.

Today I went to Miles' IEP meeting with his future Pre-school teacher, speech pathologist, and principal. I found out that Miles will be receiving 3 sessions of pre-school and 20 minutes of speech therapy per week. I'm worried about 2 things. First, the pre-school follows the kindergarten schedule so Miles' pre-school will last nearly 3 hours. I'm worried that is too long for him when it seems that 90 minutes of Playgroup is a stretch. Second, his teacher isn't, well... exciting. She's not an eye contact maker and she's an awkward-pauser. She does seem to be optimistic and has a warm personality. This is her 6th year teaching special needs pre-school and she has a special-needs grown child of her own.

Miles has one more week of his KOTM playgroups before he begins real pre-school on October 10th.
