World's Carppiest Aunt

Yep... I nominate me for that dubious title. I am a carpy (nope, not a typo) aunt. I hurt my buddy Cole. :( My parents were in town this weekend so I invited Amy, Leslie, and Aly and her family over for dinner. We had a good time... afterward, Aly and Rob needed to get their kids home and to bed. Coley still rides in his infant carseat... He looked so funny to me in it... he's so much bigger than Miles! I asked Aly how she carries Cole in that carseat. I tried to carry him and found that challenging. One thing led to another and I started swinging him back and forth in his seat. Cole thought that was pretty fun... it was even more fun when he was swung into his Uncle Dan's backside... Dan was being overdramatic and plopping over on his face on the floor when Cole crashed into him. I had a thought to stop the game before Cole got hurt, but Cole was having so much fun that I ignored the thought. A few swings/crashes later Cole let out an awful scream. Obviously he was hurt... his foot appeared to be at an odd angle compared to his other foot. He cried and cried and cried. Aly and Rob decided to take him to the instacare. The wait there was huge and Cole seemed to be improving so they decided to "wait and watch" Cole. This morning he appeared to be no worse, but this afternoon he was still refusing to put weight on his leg and would scream when he tried to. Off to the instacare Cole and his mommy and daddy went. They found out that Cole has a double leg fracture. Thanks Aunt Laura. :( That totally eats rocks. If I'd only listened to the prompting... So, Cole is splinted and needs to go to the sports medicine clinic for casting and monitoring. Why do little people have to endure things like this when they won't have any remembrance of it? What am I to learn from this sad event? Maybe I need to learn to "listen" better. Big hugs to my friend Cole.
